The field of digital photography is just
beginning to blossom. Although it has been around for the professional
photographer, it is now becoming available to the mainstream user.
Digital cameras are available at the low end for under $500.00
and at the high end for several thousand. Computer graphic programs
are popping up on the market to modify and edit the pictures you
take. Connections with your PC are getting faster and easier and
photo storage is getting to a sensible point. Look out Kodak,
this market is exploding.

These
are the most popular and the least expensive. Although these ameras
have lower resolution, they are ideal for taking photos for the
web and any other media that commonly deals with small pictures.
They newer digital "point and shoot" cameras are now
so easy a small child can use them. They have a lot of features
found earlier only on more expensive equipment. However, be advised,
"point and shoot" cameras are only good for 3x5 inch
or 4x5 inch prints.

This is the fastest growing section of
the digital camera market. More expensive than the "point
and shoot" models, these cameras now offer advanced features
and higher resolution. They give the photographer more control
over the photo process and with the higher resolution are good
for prints up to 8x10 inches
|
This is the high end of the digital camera
market. The cameras can cost from $2,000 to $15,000 and over.
Some have the capability of using 35mm lenses. The resolution
of the professional camera starts at 2 million pixels and goes
up. Because of the expense involved, the purchaser should do considerable
research before purchasing a camera in this group.
|
These are the cameras you should
stay away from unless your need and its purpose coincide. There
is always the possibility that a camera designed for scuba diving
just doesn't fill the bill as an all purpose digital "point
and shoot". And frequently the high end professional camera
is not waterproof.
